Eliodoro Dominguez Obituary

Eliodoro "Al" Dominguez Jr.

March 31, 1950 - January 25, 2023

Eliodoro "Al" Dominguez, age 72, departed this earthly life Wednesday, January 25, 2023, after a short illness. He passed peacefully at home with his wife at his side. He was born to parents, Rebecca Moreno Domingez and Eliodoro Dominguez Sr., March 31, 1950, in Navasota, Texas.

Growing up in a large family probably contributed to his love of family, sports and competition. He attended Navasota schools and played baseball and basketball. He was known as "Bones" on the basketball court in high school due to his very slim physique. After graduation from Navasota High School, he enrolled in Blinn with hopes of continuing his education, however, the military had other plans for him. He was drafted and entered the U.S. Army branch of the military and served nine years. Throughout his life Eliodoro was proud of his service to our country. His deep sense of pride as a serviceman was further enhanced when his son, David, entered service in the U.S. Air Force.

Eliodoro was employed by Texas Instruments, St. Joseph Hospital, and the U.S. Postal Service, from which he retired after many years. While working for the postal service he received several awards. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, tennis player and gardener. Every spring and summer we knew we would be getting lots of tomatoes from his garden! Eliodoro loved to travel and experienced adventures in Europe, the U.S., and cruising. Always a kid at heart, Disney World was one of his favorite places to visit. Experiencing it with his grandchildren was a wonderful treat for him.

Eliodoro was a member of USA and TASO softball associations and loved umpiring as much as he could. He was also a member of the American Legion, and volunteered at St. Joseph's Catholic Church through the rosary ministry, the church gift shop, and bazaar.

People who knew him knew how much he loved saving money by using coupons! It was a win for him! Friends and family alike benefitted from his friendship, love, kindness, and sense of humor.

We will always remember his kindness and generosity towards his mother and father-in-law. His willingness to always be available to help them out, especially in their advanced ages was a testament to his kind heart. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and especially by his family.

Eliodoro is preceded in death by his parents, Rebecca and Eliodoro Sr.; brothers, Frank, Robert, Rudy, Johnny, Rogelio; sister-in-law, Jeanette Dominguez; and grandson, Chance Alexander Cooper.

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda Orozco Dominguez; sons, David Michael (Deana) and Paul Anthony; grandsons, John Michael and James David Dominguez; daughters, Michelle Renee Kik (Matt) and Denise Marie Mortensen (Adam); grandchildren, Devon Leigh Cooper Booth (Anthony Austin Booth), Ransom Scott Hill, Carter Dean Magoon; and great-grandchildren, Anthony Austin Booth Jr., Bradleigh Chance Booth, and Cooper Jackson Booth. He is also survived by sisters, Gloria Angulo (Juan), Linda Lopez (Ronald), Irene Rueda (Zeke); sisters-in-law, Trina, Silvia, Carmen and Kathy Dominguez; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Dora (Orozco) and Joaquin Sanchez and Robert and Rebecca Orozco; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Traditions Health Hospice Care, the Regnum Christi sisters group, St. Joseph Catholic Church friends, and all family and friends who offered prayers, food, and words of comfort. Eliodoro loved life, his family and friends, and above all, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

A visitation will be Sunday, January 29, from 5-6 p.m., at Callaway-Jones Funeral Center, Bryan. The rosary will follow at 6 p.m. The funeral Mass will be Monday, January 30, at 1 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial following at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Eliodoro was one of my best friends at Navasota High School. We played basketball and Baseball together. Someof our best times were spent practicingand playing together. You really get to know someone when your acting as a team. He was a super team player. I was greatly saddended to hear of his passing. I was looking forward to visiting with him at our 55th reunion. I just learned of his untimely demise. He will be sorely missed.

My deepest condolences to the family and friends. My memories of Al was on the golf course. He was the longest hitter, never had had a cross word or argument on or off the golf with Al. He was a true gentleman and friend. I live in Houston and hadn't played with him in recent years. Our golf group back then was Richard and Frank Lara and my brother Curtis. RIP.
