Eugenia Murray Obituary

Murray, Eugenia "Jeannie"

Jan 15, 1946 - Aug 1, 2024

Eugenia "Jeannie" McCoy Murray, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, teacher, and friend, passed away on August 1, 2024, in College Station, Texas. She was born on January 15, 1946, in El Paso, Texas, to Allen R. McCoy and Mary Jo McCoy.

Jeannie led a life filled with love, hard work, and dedication. As the wife of a career army officer, she took pride in making a home wherever the army sent her husband. She started her journey as a devoted housewife and mother until her oldest child graduated high school when she parlayed her passion for books and reading into teaching full time outside of the house. Among Jeannie's proudest accomplishments was her teaching career that spanned across Massachusetts, Texas, and even Japan. Her commitment and dedication were evident in every role she embraced.

Jeannie's high school years at Irvin High School were marked by active participation in ROTC, singing groups, cheerleading, and representing the El Paso Garden club by winning the crown in the Maid-of-Cotton pageant. She earned a Bachelor of Science from Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts and a Master of Science from Sam Houston State University in Texas.

Being a mother and wife was a significant part of Jeannie's life as well. Her greatest joy was the day she became a mother, a moment she cherished above all others. She spent her life nurturing and loving her family with all her heart.

Throughout her life, Jeannie created countless beautiful memories. She adored the summer camps in Ruidoso, New Mexico, particularly enjoying the horsemanship activities there. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore various travel destinations and vacation spots where she cherished special moments with her loved ones.

Known for her kind and congenial nature, Jeannie was a peacemaker who lived by the Golden Rule - always treating others with kindness and respect. In her free time, she indulged in hobbies such as art, gardening, decorating, reading, shopping, attending bible study meetings. She was involved in various organizations throughout her life, including the Officers Wives Club, the Retired Officers Association, the Sojourners, Chi Omega Sorority, and her church community at Covenant Presbyterian Church. Her faith illuminated her path in all aspects of her life.

Jeannie is survived by her loving husband Howard A. Murray Jr., with whom she shared 58 blissful years. She is also survived by her children Howard A. Murray III (Laura), Jeffrey L. Murray, Allen R. Murray (Holly); son-in-law Todd Stoner; grandchildren Jonathan Murray (Marie), David Murray; Casey Murray; Mackenzie Murray; Jeffrey Murray; Carys Murray; and her sister Mary Martha McCoy.

She is preceded in death by her father Allen R. McCoy; mother Mary Jo McCoy; siblings Jo-Lynn Lewis and Etah Ocker; and her beloved daughter Anne Eugenia Stoner.

Jeannie Murray will be remembered fondly for her unwavering devotion to her family and friends, her unconditional love, her quick wit and contagious laugh, and for the joyful impact she made on all those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in eternal peace.

Though I haven´t see Eugenia in years, I was sad to read of her passing. She was a dedicated volunteer in the A&M Consolidated HS library for several years. Eugenia was always a cheerful and willing helper for our staff and students, and we appreciated her very much. Sincere condolences to her family.
