Jimmy Don "Jimbo" Gantt

December 8, 1948 - February 2, 2021

Jimbo went to be with his Lord and Savior in Heaven Tuesday, February 2, 2021. He was born to Morris and Mildred Gantt in Denton, Texas. Jimbo served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971, including two tours in Vietnam (1968-1970) onboard the USS Sterett DLG31, and later served in the Texas National Guard.

After an honorable discharge Jimbo attended Cooke City Jr. College in Gainesville, then Fresno Junior College in Fresno, CA. Upon returning to Denton he attended North Texas State University, studying architectural design and mechanical drafting. Jimbo moved to Aggieland in August of 1978 and attended a 12-week course in Heavy Equipment Operation at Texas A&M University's Riverside Campus. He had a fine career of over 50 years, enjoying several occupations along the way.

Jimbo never met a stranger and easily made friends throughout his life including, Alan Shook of the Bryan VFW with whom he shared military stories, and Jennifer and Jose Ramirez of Somerville whom he was friends with for many years. He also valued his close friendships with Sam Kuver, Steve Tesch, as well as Joan, Christi and the amazing Prosperity Bank staff who he loved to visit and share stories.

Jimbo married Cherry Gantt in 1989 and they shared a wonderful life until her death in 2004. She was truly the love of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Greg Gantt; and a brother, Myron S. Gantt. Survivors include his brother, George and Michele Gantt of Washington State; sister in law, Sue Gantt of College Station; nephew, Bob and Christy Gantt, also of College Station; niece, Cristi Roush of Arizona; and nephew, Hugh Gantt of California; many great-nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Jimbo was a Life Member of VFW Post 4692 in Bryan, as well as a Life Member of the American Legion in Henderson, Texas. He requested that there not be a funeral and asked that anyone wanting to remember him go to the VFW, have a drink and think of him. Jimbo always spoke highly of his friends and genuinely loved all those he knew.

Jimbo's favorite Bible verses were… John 3:16, Psalms 23, Mathew 6:34, Revelations 21:3&4 and Romans 3:21-29. May God continue to bless all those he knew, amen!
