Joseph Anthony Barron Nuñez
July 31, 1975 - July 15, 2023
Joseph Anthony Barron Nuñez, age 47, of College Station, TX, passed away following a motorcycle accident. He was a member of the American Legion, the Combat Veteran Motorcycle Association Chapter 23-9, and was returning from a week-long adventure motorcycle relief ride with the Motorcycle Relief Project. Joseph is lovingly remembered for his kindness, humor, and willingness to help at any time in his safety orange work shirts and crocs. He was always trying to give back and led the efforts in the CVMA to sponsor the Student Veterans Lounge at Texas A&M University's Veteran Resource Support Center.
Joseph was a Senior Internal Auditor for the System Internal Audit Department at Texas A&M University. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting & Finance from Texas State University in December of 2009. He obtained his Master of Science degree in Accounting from Texas A&M in May of 2016. He obtained his Master of Business Administration from Tarleton State in May 2023. Prior to joining the System Internal Audit Department in July of 2016, Joseph worked for the Brazos Valley Council of Governments as a Senior Accountant for 4 years in Bryan.
Joseph is a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy where he served three deployments in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Joseph loved to pick up hobbies throughout his life and always gave it his all. He obtained his private pilots license, he was a certified scuba diver, a captain of a sailboat, and he attempted to be a motocross rider. He also recently picked up a hobby in craftsmanship for household furnishings and woodworking.
Joseph's impact on those close to him in both professional and personal relationships will be greatly missed. His ability to make anyone smile and laugh with his quick-witted sense of humor and bright smile will stay in our hearts forever.
Joseph was preceded in death by his sister, Mandy Wollersheim.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Alexis; children, Jonathan, Jacob, and Jackson Canfield; parents, Vera Anderson (Billy) from Lake McQueeny, TX and Sydney Nunez (Joyce) from Bremerton, WA; siblings, Angelina Smith (Jason) from Jacksonville, FL, AprilMay Hoyt from Bryan, TX, Jennifer Wollersheim from Bryan, TX, and John Nunez from Jacksonville, FL; and numerous other family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at Hillier of COLLEGE STATION on Sunday, July 23, at 2 p.m. Full military honors will be rendered at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX, on Friday, August 4, at 9 a.m.
