Larry Lilly Obituary
Larry Lilly, 62, of Georgetown, died Monday, October 20, 2008, at his home after a year long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 22, at the Salado United Methodist Church with Rev. Travis Franklin officiating.
He was born March 10, 1946, in Knox City, Texas to John E. (Buster) Lilly and Margaret Louise Redwine. He attended Throckmorton High School in 1964, and Texas Christian University in 1969, where he received his B.S. degree.
In 1982, he married Linda Lee Porterfield. Larry was a prominent custom home/commercial builder in Central Texas. He was President of Larry Lilly Builders, Inc. for over 20 years.
He was named Builder of the Year in Bell County, served as President of the Temple Belton Homebuilders Association and was instrumental in structuring building codes for Salado. He served on the Board of Directors for Ronald McDonald House in Temple.
Larry had an active sports career starting with high school. He was named All State in Football and All Regional in Track. At TCU, Larry lettered in football from his position as defensive guard.
He became a state amateur golfer winning numerous championships and tournaments. He was twice named president of the Mill Creek Golf Association in Salado and president- elect of Cimarron Hills Golf and Country Club Golf Association in Georgetown. He was also an active member of the Temple Elks Club.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Lee (Porterfield) Lilly of Georgetown; his mother, Margaret Lilly of Georgetown; three daughters, Lisa Dawn Lux of Eldorado, Jennifer Lynn Lilly of Eldorado, and Emily Nicole Lilly of Dallas; brother, Bob Lilly of Georgetown; sister, Ann Lilly of McKinney; three loving grandchildren, Karmi, Kyler and Kasey; all of Eldorado.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to: The Larry Lilly Memorial Fund, c/o First State Bank, Main and Thomas Arnold Rd, Salado, TX. 76571 or the Salado United Methodist Church, 650 Royal St., Salado.
Broecker Funeral Home of Salado is in charge of arrangements.

Linda, Juanita and I are so sorry to hear about Larry. I just recieved an email from Kevin Frenzel telling about Larry's passing. I stopped by a few years ago and had a chance to visit with Larry for a little while, wish I had done so more often. We've really enjoyed knowing you both and feel blessed God allowed us to share part of our lives with you.

Vicki and I met Larry Lilly in 1980 in
Bryan/College Station. We grew up in the same area of Texas and we
became fast friends. He loved for
Vicki to cook him "supper" and ate us out of house and home before Linda came along and they got married. I watched Emily grown up and Larry and I played alot of golf together. His big grin and funny humor was truly special. Everybody knew who his brother was but everyone
that got to know Larry loved him as a true gentlemen with a kind and gentle spirit. He is probably having a big time in Heaven and for that we
are thankful. We truly loved Larry
as our own family.

Dear Larry Lilly Family,
I knew Larry and his sweet family when he was a young man living in Arlington and our families were close for that time in their lives. It is a shame that distance and time changed all of that. I was so sad to hear of Larry's passing, he was a good man and whenever we lose someone who was once in our lives it leaves a void. It is such a pity that we all get so busy that we don't stay in touch. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy in your loss and may God's love and protection give you strength in your loss. I was the first cart boy at Cimarron Hills CC. I went on to know Larry very well getting his clubs now and then back in 2004-05. We began always when he arrived to talk about sports. Soon after, I discovered his brother was Bob. He always took the time to talk about his Hall of Fame Brother. I always remember He knew everything about him. I left the cart boy crew for the maintenance position there, but Larry would always stop and see me and always talk sports. This I will always remember about Him. We first met Larry back in 1989. Larry was our contractor for our first home my wife and I built outside of Cameron, Tx.
Larry did not skimp on anything in the building of his homes. He built a home that my wife and I was very proud of in every aspect of its construction. We were proud to call Larry our friend not someone that was in charge of building our home.
Larry will be missed.

When I first came to Temple, TX I didn't know a soul. I went to a TABA function - Larry talked to me and made me feel welcome when no one else did. I won't ever forget it. He made me laugh, he told me to keep looking forward, and he made me feel like part of the group. It was him that started my real career in real estate. Thank you Larry, and God Bless your family during these difficult times. You were a fun and crazy guy! Love ya Linda.

We have lost a very good man but God has gained one. He and i shared many classes together at TCU. I always felt so welcome around him and loved how his humor and dry wit made me laugh. In some hard times of college, he filled me with laughter and fun, and helped my transition to knowledge and maturity become easier. Blessings to your family and know that you have been blessed as sharing in his life and receiving the love that he so was capable of. i have lived in Hearne all my life and traveled thru georgetown hundreds of times and my old friend was right there..
