In 1955-56, Mr. Bransford was my 9th grade English teacher at Monning Junior High School. Our class was the “accelerated grammar” class and we also published the school newspaper. Teaching 9th graders is not always pleasant. So if we behaved well during the week, he would read to us on Fridays. We loved his reading so much that we seldom misbehaved. He read to us classics like Little Women, Robinson Crusoe, and White Fang. He was particularly found of making us diagram sentences as a way of teaching us grammar and sentence structure. This skill has served me well throughout my lifetime. I have had many great teachers in my life, but Mr. Bransford would have to be at the very top. I wish I had told him how much I appreciated him for what he taught me and for his dedication to excellence. Those of you who were fortunate to have had him as a teacher understand what I mean.

Mr. Bransford was my favorite teacher at AHHS. He led us in games to prep us for exams, and went above and beyond to make class memorable. He said that one of his favorite things to do was to sit in a corner drugstore in New York and watch the people through the window. I can just imagine what he saw.

I am Marilyn Pendery Jones and Mr Bransford was my favorite and most memorable teacher at Arlington Heights. This picture looks just like I remember him. I loved the stories about seeing the musicals in New York in the summer. My condolences to his family. He certainly was a wonderful teacher.

Mr. Bransford made English fun for (almost) all his students. He opened our eyes to the excitement of travelling and life beyond Fort Worth and Texas. Each time he returned from NYC, he brought a collection of Playbills from the Broadway stage. He was so enthusiastic about the NY stage that we could not help but share his excitement. He worked with each of us individually on our writing style. He was dedicated to teaching excellence and was one of the best five teachers I had in K-12.

Mr. Bransford was indeed a fabulous teacher. His enthusiasm for literature, writing, and the wonders of the world were attributes of an inspirational, magnetic teaching personality. I was sitting in his English class when we learned that President Kennedy had been shot and school would be dismissed. He handled that distressing situation with dignity and calm.

Milton and I were roommates at North Texas and I have many memories of those few years. We travelled to Colorado and to New York City on two occasions. I regret tht our lives did not cross again after college until I last saw him about nine years ago. He will always be remembered.
