W.C. Scasta Obituary

W.C. Scasta, Jr.

September 8, 1928 - June 26, 2022

William Charles Scasta Jr., 93, of Bryan, was called Home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 26, 2022.

W.C. was born on September 8, 1928, in Bryan, Texas. Growing up in the Wheelock area, W.C. enjoyed learning the ethics of hard work, raising livestock and growing crops while still in school. Ranching was always important to W.C. and his family earned the Texas Family Land Heritage Recognition, for family land owned since 1905, through 5 generations. Ranching came naturally to W.C., and he is known for his commercial cattle operation and quality hay. W.C. also enjoyed his work as a General Contractor. He built many custom homes in the Bryan/College Station area in the 1960s through the 1980s.

W.C. hired many young Aggies who needed work, encouraging, supporting and sometimes offering tough love to them when needed. Many Aggies are considered family members to this day.

W.C. served on the Board of Directors of Producers Cooperative Association for 33 years and in various capacities with local agriculture organizations. He loved selling his best livestock to young students for their ag projects and would often buy them back at the youth shows and sales.

Family was always the most important aspect of W.C.'s life. W.C. met Joyce Lee Pruett Scasta, who lived in the same community, when mutual friends invited them to a picnic at the river. After a canoe ride together, the rest is history! They married on June 5, 1949 and have shared 73 wonderful years together. W.C. and Joyce have always counted it a blessing to have their three children and spouses living on the ranch and watching the grandchildren grow up. W.C. enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding folks around the ranch, playing dominos and travelling with good friends.

W.C. was a gentleman, trustworthy and dedicated to his work and family. His gentle, quiet manner was filled with common sense and wisdom. When he spoke, you would do well to listen. He was very kind to others, kept a positive attitude in hard times, and always loved genuinely. He was a man of great character and value. He had a very personal, deep, quiet faith in God. While he did not always speak out loud about his faith, he lived it. He taught his family many valuable lessons- truth, honesty, hard work, kindness, and love of the land, animals, and the USA.

W.C. is reunited with his parents, W.C. Scasta Sr. and Nora Lee Wilson Scasta.

W.C. leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Joyce Lee Pruett Scasta; children, Calvin Scasta and wife LeeAnn, Lloyd Scasta and wife Katherine, and Linda (Scasta) Wilson and husband Wayne; four grandchildren, Matt Scasta, Andy Scasta and wife Jennifer Ann, Katy (Scasta) Williams and husband Ryan, and Christi (Wilson) Wilson and husband Wes; eight great-grandchildren, Reign Scasta, Cutter Scasta, Robert Christopher (Bo) Scasta, Tate Williams, Tana Williams, Calli Wilson, Haley Wilson, and Colby Wilson.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, on Thursday, June 30th, at Hillier of Bryan. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10 am on Friday, July 1st, at Hillier of Bryan, with a Graveside service to follow at Wheelock Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Wheelock Cemetery Association or an organization of your choice.

I have been blessed to know W.C. for nearly 70 years. A good man and legendary rancher. We always talked about the weather, cattle prices etc. When I read of his passing, I recalled W.C. asked me to offer a prayer at a field day at his ranch. Prayer normally is not on the agenda. This spoke loud and clear -W.C. is a Christian and is now in heaven. Lloyd Joyce

My heartfelt condolences to Joyce and the entire Scasta family. My late husband, W.D. Pruett, was Joyce's older brother. I am deeply grateful for the wonderful times we had visiting the ranch. Junior and Bill (they called him David) were avid domino players and we had lots of fun played endless games of 42 and others. I also have fond memories of fishing in the tanks Junior kept well stocked, and the "roundups" he did in his truck. He was a great man with a big heart. He will be missed by all those who knew him. Rest in peace, Junior.
