Robert Opperman Obituary
The Rev. Robert Opperman, 95, of Fostoria, died on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015.
He was born in 1920 in Auglaize County, the son of Herman and Anna (Nolte) Opperman.
He married Jeanne M. Meier on June 8, 1949, in Prescott, Wis., and she survives.
He is also survived by his children: Paul (Ellen) Opperman of Bettendorf, Iowa; Judith (Dimitri) Coucouvanis of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Phillip(Teresa) Opperman of Sandpoint, Idaho; Mark (Jacqueline) Opperman of South Lyon, Mich., and Peter (Pamela) Opperman of Danvers, Ill. He is survived by 10 grandchildren and five great-grandsons.
He is survived by a brother, Marvin Opperman of St. Marys. He is also survived by a sister, Marjorie Meier of River Falls, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his siblings Vernon Opperman, Dorothy Jung, Myron Opperman, Ed Opperman and Fred Opperman.
He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Leslie Ann Opperman.
The Rev. Opperman was a 1938 graduate of New Knoxville High School.
He was a 1949 graduate of Mission House College in Plymouth, Wis., and a master's of divinity in 1952. He was ordained in June, 1952, and he served in United Church of Christ parishes including St. John's-Baseline Church in College Hill; Immanuel UCC in Plymouth, Wis.; Ripley UCC in Traer, Iowa; Peace UCC in Dysart, Iowa, and he did interim pastoral work in Fostoria and Upper Sandusky.
He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He enjoyed traveling, fishing and flower gardening. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, many of whom he had the privilege of baptizing.
Funeral rites will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of New Knoxville, with the Rev. Beth Ernest, officiant. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Friends may call one hour prior to services in the Heritage Room of the First Church of New Knoxville. Memorial donations may be given to Lakeland College in Plymouth, Wis.
Vornholt-Miller Funeral Home, 200 W. Spring St., New Knoxville, is in charge of Rev. Opperman's funeral arrangements.
