Mary Ferguson Obituary
Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Hall Ferguson, 91, of Rocky Mount, Va., passed away on Sunday, August 14, 2022. She was born on December 4, 1930, to the late Mary D. and Van Buren Hall. She was preceded in death by her brothers, V.B. Hall Jr., and Nelson "Flukie" Hall; infant brother, Wallace C. Hall; and sister, Nancy Hall Lynch.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ray Ferguson; daughters, Linda Ferguson Robertson (Dwayne), Lisa Ferguson Scott (Wendell), Lynne K. Ferguson, and Jennifer Ferguson Staker; and grandchildren, Brian Robertson (Christine), Lauren Robertson Young (Chad), Sarah Scott Moore (Corey), Adam C. Scott (Cecilia), Erin V. Staker, and Molly F. Staker. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine Hall Chitwood; brother, William "Bill" Hall; sister-in-law, Alice S. Hall; eight great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betsy worked for many years at the Art Beauty Shop until hers and Ray's young family grew quite large, quite rapidly with the birth of the first triplets at what is now Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. She volunteered in her community by always helping with school and church events, where she was a lifelong member of Redwood United Methodist Church. Betsy was selfless, patient, witty, and an unsung hero to all. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Redwood United Methodist Church with the Reverends Clayton and Sarah Payne officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, located on Woodman Road. The family received friends Tuesday, August 16, 2022, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Building Fund at Redwood United Methodist Church, 3001 Old Franklin Turnpike, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
