Gilbert Key Obituary

FRANKLIN - Gilbert Russell "Rusty" Key, 68, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2025.
Rusty was born in Sanford, to his parents, the late Bobby Joe Key and Adelaide Daniels Key. He graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1979. He attended Campbell University School of Law in Buies Creek and graduated with a degree of Juris Doctor in 1983. He was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association since 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Franklin. In his spare time, he enjoyed golfing, hiking, camping, kayaking, fishing and playing guitar. He was a prominent attorney in Macon County for many years.
He is survived by his son, Gabriel; sister, Adelaide Key Green of Franklin; brothers, Jonathan Worth (Barbara) Key of Biltmore Lake and David Daniels (Kathy) Key of Franklin; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends Friday, May 16, from 1-3 p.m., at Macon Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 3 p.m., in the chapel. Pastor Betsy Stow will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
