FRANKLIN - Norene Elizabeth Hasle, born Oct. 26, 1930, in Detroit, Michigan, to Albert E. Kuehn and Elizabeth "Betty" (Gauvin) Kuehn, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and love, just shy of her 95th birthday, Wednesday, Oct. 22.
Born during the Great Depression, Norene's life was one of quiet strength, service and deep devotion to her family and faith. She was the beloved sister of the late Albert E. Kuehn and is survived by her younger brother, Thomas Kuehn.
In the mid-1940s, the Kuehn family relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Norene attended St. Anthony's Catholic School and later graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. It was in Fort Lauderdale that she met the love of her life, Theodore "Ted" S. Hasle Jr. They were married at St. Anthony's Church on June 7, 1952.
Together, Norene and Ted built a loving home and raised three children, Marlene (deceased), Ted and Richard. In the early 1960s, they co-founded Ted's Plumbing, a family-run business that served the community of Broward County for decades until their retirement in 1990.
Upon retiring, Norene and Ted moved to Franklin, where they embraced the serenity of the mountains and became active members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. They devoted time to community service, including work with Habitat for Humanity. Norene also delivered for Meals on Wheels, bringing not just food, but compassion to those in need.
After Ted's passing in 1997, Norene continued to split her time between Franklin and South Florida, before eventually resettling in Florida in 2005. She lived in several communities including Lighthouse Point, Deerfield Beach, Coral Springs and Parkland.
Norene is survived by her sons, Ted (Brenda Pagliaro) Hasle of Coral Springs, Florida, and Richard (Lisa) Hasle of Franklin. She leaves behind a proud legacy through her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Sean, Matthew, Sarah and Jenny Hasle; and her great-grandchildren, Landon Hasle, Bryce Hasle, Grace Kenyon, Faith Kenyon and Jeremy Golowinski. She was also embraced and loved by Brenda's extended family.
Norene's life was marked by quiet kindness, strong faith and unwavering love for her family. She will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
Norene's funeral service will commence on Friday, Oct. 31, at 11 a.m., at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 299 Maple St. Franklin, NC 28734, where her Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church or St Jude Children's Hospital.
