Donald Miller Obituary

Donald "Don" Lee Miller, 89 of Swisher, was reunited in heaven with his wife Millie on Thursday, January 16, 2025. Services: 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Shueyville Church by Pastor Nick Grove and Pastor Brody Tubaugh. Burial: Shueyville Cemetery. Teahen Funeral Home and Cremation Services are assisting the family. Don was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a gentle soul and a kind heart. Don is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Steve) Mallicoat of Solon, Nancy Brown of Atkins, Debie (Stuart) Towe of Norway, and Kristi (Shawn) Nove of Fairfax; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jim Bys of Shueyville; sister, Linda (Steve) Lund of Albert Lea, MN; 4 nieces; and 3 nephews. Don was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Millie; daughter, Diane Bys; his parents and brother-in-law Richard Pospisil. Don was born on August 10, 1935, the son of Joel and Mildred (Scheevel) Miller in Preston, Minnesota. He attended Flying Cloud Country School and graduated from Preston High School in 1954. Don was a hardworking and dedicated man. Those values he learned at a very young age by helping on the family farm. He carried those values throughout his life especially when he served in the United States Army as a lieutenant with the weapons infantry division during the Korean War. What brought Don to Iowa? His beautiful wife was the best thing that ever happened to him. Once in Iowa Don worked at Martin Marietta and General Mills, or as he would call it big G, for 30 years before retiring in 2000. Don was a member of Shueyville Church. Don enjoyed watching sports, especially the Minnesota Vikings, meeting his General Mills friends for breakfast, traveling with Millie, and attending monthly card club gatherings. Don loved working in his vegetable garden, taking care of the yard, and cooking up a good steak or burger on the grill. After a full day of work, Don enjoyed sitting on the front porch swing to watch the sunset. He looked forward to attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's many activities. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family. He will be forever loved and missed by all who knew him. Memorials may be directed to the Jefferson Monroe Fire Department-Swisher. I worked with Don for several years at General Mills and always thought he was one of a kind. He was methodical, humorous and cooperative. Those who knew him will be saddened by his departure.
