Eugene Kiolbasa Obituary

Eugene E. Kiolbasa passed away in Iowa City on June 13, 2022. He was 87 years old. Gene was born May 21, 1935, in Genoa, Neb., the son of Frank and Barbara Kiolbasa. Gene served in the Army National Guard for eight years, and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. Gene loved travelling and being outdoors. He enjoyed getting into the car with his family and exploring the backroads of Iowa. Gene and wife Sharon would travel extensively within the United States. Gene also enjoyed fishing, and would take time to relax while waiting for his line to give that telltale jerk. Most of all, Gene loved his family. His wife, Sharon, was his best friend, and he loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren more than he could ever say. Gene retired from the University of Iowa as an environmental systems mechanic. Gene’s memory and legacy will be carried on through all those who love him. Gene’s family include his cherished children, Rhonda Wildman, Lori (the late Tom) Hook, Nancy (Keith) Peterson, Sandy (Wayne) Parrott and Marty Kiolbasa; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Ed Kiolbasa and Jeanette Kemper. Sadly, Gene was preceded in death by his wife and best friend, Sharon; and numerous siblings. Gene’s family have arranged a simple cremation in accordance with his wishes and no services are currently planned. Memories and condolences can be expressed at gayandciha.com.
