Janet Lammey Obituary

Our beloved Mother, Nana, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend, Janet Kay Cross Lammey, 84, of Amana, IA, passed away on Monday, December 8, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. She was in Hospice Care, and surrounded by close family members as she took her last breath. Funeral service: 10 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2024, at the Middle Amana Church, with Elder Tony Berger officiating. Celebration of Life to follow at Price Creek Event Center, Amana, IA. Burial will be at the High Amana Cemetery, High Amana. Visitation: 5-8 p.m., Thursday, January 11, 2024, at the Middle Amana Church, Middle Amana. A memorial fund will be set up for the Amana Church Society. Kloster Funeral Home is caring for Jan and her family. Janet was born December 5, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Howard and Dorothy (Hartman) Cross. She attended Jackson Elementary School where she developed enduring friendships that would last her entire life. She attended both Roosevelt and Washington High Schools in Cedar Rapids. At Washington, she graduated with the first graduating class of 1958. After High School Janet moved to Hollywood, CA where she met L.D. Lammey, and married in 1963. In 1964, they suffered the loss of their first child, so moved back to Iowa to be close to family. They bought a house in High Amana, IA, started an antique shop, and raised two daughters. Janet was best known for the soulful way she connected to others. Her faith, her family, and her friendships meant more to her than anything in the world. Janet's interests included church, visiting with friends and family, gardening, traveling, reading books (and collecting them!). Each year, she would travel to Graceland in Memphis, TN, for the annual Elvis Memorial Celebration. She worked at Rockwell Collins for many years, retiring in 2003. From 2010-2020, she traveled with her eldest daughter to art shows throughout the nation. For many years she was an advocate with Heritage Foundation on Aging and fought for elder rights. She was thrilled to learn that in 2022, SF 522, a historic bill was passed making elder abuse its own crime. Survivors include her daughters, Andrea (Mark) Lammey Glassberg, Lisa Lammey; grandchildren Jakob Kinzenbaw, and Sara Kinzenbaw; stepgrandchildren, Taylor, Kayla, and Mason; sister, Sheryl Cross Wilwol, nieces, nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and daughter Elizabeth Ann Lammey. Janet will be remembered most by the way she loved people, her warm, beautiful smile, and caring heart. I met Janet for the first time at Graceland for the Elvis week event. Every year we would see each other there and sometimes during the year she would call me and we would talk about the Elvis Week events and people we met there. Janet was a wonderful person and I am glad I had to opportunity to meet her. Terrie
