Jeanette Kvach Obituary

Jeanette Grace Gabriel Kvach Born in rural Washington County, Iowa January 6, 1934. Passed peacefully at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, Iowa February 20, 2025. Parents Leroy "Roy" and Maxine Gabriel, deceased. Sister Janice Marie Gabriel, deceased. Survived by daughter Lisa Lacy (Andy), sister-in-law Jean Kvach, nephews Dennis Barger (Marty), Rick Barger and several great and great-great nieces and nephews. Jeanette was born and raised in rural Washington county; Wellman was the nearest 'big' city. After attending a one room schoolhouse, Jeanette graduated in 1952 from Wellman High School. She moved to Cedar Rapids and worked for several years at the Morris Plan. It was in Cedar Rapids where she met Frank; they were married on Dec. 26, 1964. Daughter Lisa was born in 1965. Jeanette and Frank were married for 48 years. Jeanette and Frank enjoyed many years of trailering vacations. Exploring destinations across most of the 50 states and Canada. Mountains were a favorite destination. They also enjoyed many fishing adventures to Minnesota and Canada. Jeanette was a comfortable fisherwoman â€" willing and able to bait her own hook and remove a caught fish. Jeanette was a superb seamstress and tailor, making professional quality clothing for Frank and Lisa. She joined a sewing guild and shared her passion and skills with several like-minded sewers making lap blankets for nursing facility residents and hospice patients. Jeanette was also a very skilled knitter, sharing her enjoyment of this craft with many by making numerous baby blankets, afghan throw blankets and sweaters. As part of Project Linus, she knitted caps for newborns. During their travels, no fabric or yarn store bypassed. Her sewing room was a testament to her passion for these crafts and evident in the many yards of fabric and skeins of yarn. In her later years, the daily reading of the Gazette and good mysteries were favorite past times as was catching up with visitors to and the staff of Hiawatha Care Center. Special thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Hiawatha Care Center for their wonderful care of and for making Jeanette's last 4 ½ years comfortable.
