Kenneth D. Nelson

Kenneth D. Nelson, 73, of Iowa City, died Sunday, March 5, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics after a short hospitalization. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Lensing Funeral Home in Iowa City, Iowa. Visitation begins at 10 a.m. Ken was born April 25, 1949, in Sibley, Iowa, to Cecil and Ruth (Gilma Haack) Nelson. Ken grew up in the Cedar Falls area, and married Marion (Schipper) May 18, 1973, in Parkersburg, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force and received his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Omaha, Neb., before returning to Iowa, residing in Manchester until 1995 and Iowa City where he retired. Ken was always excited to play a round of golf and was an advocate for the Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include brother Victor (Thorana) Nelson of Santa Fe, N.M., son Nathan Nelson (Megan) of Cedar Rapids, son Christopher Nelson (Brittany) and granddaughters Nora and Ava of Cedar Rapids, sister-in-law Janette Nelson of Cedar Falls, niece Stacy, nephews Travis and Josh, and their families. Ken was preceded in death by his wife Marion in 2011, parents, brother Dennis, sister Lori, and brother-in-law Jim.
