Larry Ogden Obituary

LARRY H. OGDEN Oxford Larry H. Ogden, 80, of Oxford, formerly of North Liberty, died at home surrounded by his family on June 1, 2021. Larry was born on July 11, 1940, to Clarence Ogden and Emma (Meyer) Ogden in Clarence, Iowa. In his early years, he developed a love for the land and it was his passion to be a farmer and care for the land and livestock. On June 9, 1962, he married Mary Jo Howe in Tipton, Iowa, and together they raised three sons, Mark (Kathy), Scott and Pat (Angie). He has six grandchildren, Matt Ogden (Ashley Black), Lindsey (Travis) Shaull, Owen (Brittany) Ogden, Riley Ogden, Cody and Casey Ogden. He has three great-grandchildren, Asher Ogden, Chloe Shaull and Skylar Ogden. The highlights of his life were helping his sons prepare for and watching them show livestock at the Johnson County 4-H Fairs, Iowa State Fair and Waterloo Cattle Congress. Larry was named Seedstock Producer of the Year by the Johnson County Cattlemen in 2009. He was a member of the Johnson County and Iowa Cattlemen Association and Johnson County Farm Bureau; past member of the Iowa Simmental Association and American Simmental Association. He took great pride in his herd of Seven Oaks Simmental cattle which started with 4-H projects and developed into a large herd that he and his son, Scott, managed. Larry was a past member of the Eastern Iowa Truck Puller's Association. He loved driving his red "Instigator" pulling truck and traveling to truck pulls with his son, Pat. The birth of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren gave him the greatest joy. Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Jo; his sons and their families; his brother, Bill of Tipton; sister-in-law, Roxanne Howe-Murphy (Jim Murphy) of Santa Fe, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Betty and Shirley; and brothers, Donald and David. Per Larry's wishes, private family graveside services are being planned. Burial will take place in the Rochester, Iowa, cemetery. Memorials may be directed to The Bird House, Johnson County Hopsice Home or Iowa City Hospice. Our family wishes to express our deep gratitude to Dr. Michael Hoffman, Mercy Pulmonary; Dr. Greg Bozek, Mercy Rehab Facility, the Bird House and Iowa City Hospice for their very kind and compassionate care.
