Richard Grimm Obituary

RICHARD L. "DICK" GRIMM North English Richard L "Dick" Grimm, 89, of North English, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022, at West Ridge Care Center in Cedar Rapids, where he had been a resident since December 2021. Per his wishes, he was cremated and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date for his family and close friends. Richard was born Oct. 25, 1932, in North English, Iowa, to Reta (Kutchera) and Walter Grimm. He graduated from North English High School. He served in the Army, stationed in Berlin, German,y during the Cold War. He retired from the University of Iowa. His true passion was operating and managing the family farm which has been in his family since 1877. Richard loved family gatherings for birthdays, weddings and especially the annual family Christmas party. If he wasn't at home or the farm you could usually find him at a farm auction, garage sales or a second hand store adding to his many treasures. Richard was most proud of and always talked about his eight children, whom he is survived by, Tom (Cheryl) Grimm of Swanton, Vt., Gloria (Tim) Mesick of Bettendorf, Karla (Barry) Lee of Sigourney, John (Dawn) Grimm of Cedar Rapids, Michael (Pam) Grimm of North English, Brenda (Chris) Tompkins of Montezuma, Kurt Grimm of Iowa City and Kelly (fiance Richard) of Chicago, Ill. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, five great-children and ex-wife, Hilda Grimm of Williamsburg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reta and William Fox; ex-wives, Kathleen Harding and Francine Jacobs; and granddaughter, Sydney Lee.
