Ronald Pettit Obituary

RONALD DEAN PETTIT Solon Ronald Dean Pettit, 67, of Solon, passed away with loved ones by his side on the evening of Sunday, June 27, 2021, from complications of a brief illness at St. Luke's Hospital. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 3, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagle's Club in Cedar Rapids, directly following the service. Ron was born on July 14, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, to Gerald Calhoun (Gus) and Leona Viola (Meyers) Pettit. He attended Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, and joined the U.S. Army, during the Vietnam War. He married Kerrie Jean Smith on Dec. 21, 1974, in Rock Falls, Ill. He owned and operated Ron's Coins in Cedar Rapids for the past 41 years. His greatest joy in his life was his family. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren. He has always had at least one dog, and absolutely cherished his animals. He enjoyed vacationing in the Southwest and horseback riding. His customers in his business were very near and dear to his heart. Ron was a giving man, and only cared about making everyone happy. He is survived by his wife, Kerrie of Solon; daughter, Lisa Pettit (Adam) of Cedar Rapids; son, Bryan Pettit (Marie) of Marion; son, Chad Pettit (Traci) of Marion; five grandchildren, Austin, Blake, Brayden, Leona and Vivian; one sister, Diana Lillian Willey of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two aunts, Margaret Behrens and Shirley Meyers; several nieces and nephews; as well as his dog, Denali. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Joseph Dewayne Pettit, Thomas Allen Pettit and Terry Lee Pettit. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the family. Thinking of all of you that he left behind on this day. May God bless each and every one of you and please know that Ron is watching over you with love and pride. That is all he ever talked about with me was how great of a family he had. I bragged about mine too. Ron and I had similar backgrounds and wanted a better life and we both achieved that!

Ron was my cousin and although we were miles apart and not close, we connected through Facebook. I was saddened to hear of his passing. He and I communicated about the love he had for his family and I did the same. He is missed.

Being my best friends brother, I'll never forget the time we drove to Nogales Mexico and back in a week in the early 70's. Busted at the border for switchblades. He drove that 57 Chevy like a champ, 2,000 miles and never once pulled over. Rest in peace.
