Scott Bryan Obituary

Scott Warren Bryan, 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at UnityPoint St. Luke’s Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at The Bohemian in Cedar Rapids on Sunday, July 31, 2022. Scott was born Oct. 23, 1946, to Carlos and Helen (Miller) Bryan in Parkersburg, Iowa. After he graduated from Aurelia High School, he went on to receive his bachelor’s degree from Drake University and later attended the University of Iowa where he received his master’s. He worked many years as a teacher at Metro High School in Cedar Rapids. His teaching experience would take him overseas where he taught in China at Shijiazhuang College and Tangshan College of Education. He was awarded a provincial certificate for outstanding foreign professors. During his time in China, he met Shuyuan Guo. Scott and Shuyuan were married on March 27, 2002. He enjoyed reading, writing poetry, and making pottery. He cherished the time he spent with his family. Scott is survived by his loving wife, Shuyuan Bryan; stepdaughter,Jingyao Zhou and spouse Liang Bai; grandchildren, Nathan Bai of Shijiazhuang, China, and Mathew Bai of Cedar Rapids; siblings, Steve Bryan of New Canaan, Conn., and Craig Bryan of Apple Valley, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to Metro High School. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.

He was such a great teacher. He helped me so much with my poetry and writing when he was my teacher at Metro Highschool. Sending lots of prayers for his family n friends.
