Shane Wingerson Obituary

Shane Wingerson, 55, of Spotsylvania, Va., formerly of Marion/Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away comfortably, peacefully, and surrounded by family on Saturday, August 31, 2024, following a fierce battle with cancer. A celebration of life will be held at Christ Community Church in Marion, Iowa, on September 28 at 11 am with lunch to follow. Shane is survived by his children, Erin Smith, Kelly Workman, and Shannon Bowman; brother, David Wingerson; grandchildren, Aspen Workman, Jasper Workman, Hunter Smith, Cooper Smith, and Ivy Bowman; Aunt and Uncle, Karen & Rich Smolinski; and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Lela Wingerson. Shane was born in Vinton, Iowa, on November 13, 1968. He graduated from Marion High School, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Amoret (Amie) Deerberg, on July 7, 1990; they remained married for almost 24 years and share 3 daughters together. While no longer married, Shane and Amie maintained a close friendship until his passing. Shane worked in technology, with a particular focus in security intelligence. Outside of work, he enjoyed many different hobbies including maintaining many collections; traveling; playing video games; and watching all his favorite teams across many different sports. In all these activities, he enjoyed sharing his interests and time with his family whenever possible. He will be loved and missed by many, including by his Shiloh Shepherd, Nova.
