SKYLER ALLEN MOSS Iowa City Skyler Allen Moss, 39, of Iowa City, passed into eternal life on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was a fierce warrior for the last two years to conquer yet again, testicular cancer. Skyler was born Aug. 17, 1982, in Iowa City, the son of Stephen and Sonya (German) Moss of Iowa City. His family, left to carry on his legacy, are his wife, Sarah, and their three children, Brady, Sloan and Jagger; two sisters, Stephanie Moss and Stacy (Luke) Zeller, and their children, Gavin and Logan; grandparents, Larry and Donna German; Uncle David Moss, Teri Blume, Sharon and Darwin Thirtyacre, Randy and Peggy German, Rick German, Scott and Suzy German; father in-law, Don Olomon; and sister-in-law, Ashley Olomon. Skyler was blessed with many cousins. Preceding Skyler in death were his grandparents, Kenneth and Janice Moss; Aunt Janet Moss; and his mother-in-law, Florence Olomon. Skyler graduated from Iowa City High, where he was a four-sport athlete in track, baseball, football and basketball. He was the starting quarterback on the football team, guard on the basketball team, starting first basemen and ran on many relay teams. Skylers sporting honors include, 14-year old baseball AAU player of the year in the state of Iowa, holds the highest batting average in City High history, won three drake relays championships and part of eight state championship relay teams. He further took his athletic career to the University of Iowa, where he continued playing the sport he loved most, baseball. He loved sports, playing, coaching and watching. He was a natural coach and mentor, his passion for sports was demonstrated through the connections he made with athletes and mentoring and coaching his children. He was a die hard Hawkeye fan and enjoyed going to football games, basketball and baseball games and wrestling meets. He was also a huge Chiefs and Tom Brady fan. Above and beyond sports, was his family. He lived for his kids and his extended family. Skyler loved with his whole heart and made everyone feel loved and like family. They were the world to him. He always told everyone being a dad was the best role he held. Skyler looked forward to coaching his kids in sports, watching them grow up and being there for every milestone. Skyler and Sarah loved traveling and they took Brady to the Rose Bowl when he was just one month old. They had plans to take their whole family to Disney at Christmas time. Skyler is a third generation Quarterback Club member and third generation City High and University of Iowa Alumni and a member of the United Methodist Church. Being a member at the Elks Club also held a special place for the Moss family, as they grew up swimming and playing golf with family and friends and he was able to share that same joy with his wife and kids. Skyler loved golfing all summer long with Brady and his Dad followed by afternoon family swim. Growing up, Skyler and his family took golf trips and played frequently. As an adult, Skyler was finally able to play golf as much as he wanted, playing up to 18-36 holes in a day. Every chance he could get he was organizing an outing, a vacation or just a local get together with friends and family. You could always spot Skyler on the golf by one of his brightly colored outfits. He loved to stand out. He was a traditional man and kept those traditions going with his family. Skyler's birthday always landed during the State Fair, and for decades, the family spent a day at Adventureland and a day at the State Fair. During Skyler's battle with cancer, he organized a trip in 2021 to continue the tradition with his family and they returned to Adventureland and the State Fair. This made him so very happy. Keeping trend with being traditional, Skyler enjoyed playing Cribbage, euchre and poker with his dad's poker group. In Skyler's spare time, he held a full-time job managing the family business at North Dodge Athletic Club. He loved the people and environment at NDAC. He made sure to know everyones name and wanted them to all feel welcome. He planned to be there for life. But managing NDAC wasn't enough. Sky had big dreams, he also became a Realtor and joined Lepic-Kroeger Realtors, and coached City High football and baseball teams. Skyler became an avid griller and meat smoker, many times getting up at the crack of dawn to get food prepared for an Iowa football tailgate where everyone was welcome. He was known for the best brisket in town. We want to thank UIHC for the ongoing care they provided Skyler, and to the entire community for the continued loved and support they have offered Skyler and his family, from child care, dog care, meals, mowing, moving, cards, letters, calls, visits all to encourage Skyler. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at First United Methodist Church in Iowa City with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for streets around the church for Friday and Saturday).
