John Milner
John Holmes Milner, III, 88, of Hartwell, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2024, at The Oaks of Athens.
Born on January 12, 1936 in
Barnesville, Ga., he was the son of the late John Holmes Milner Jr. and Sarah Burns Milner. Mr. Milner was a graduate of the University of Georgia, where he received his degree in Entomology. Mr. Milner worked for the United States Department of Agriculture, where he worked as a federal inspector. After retirement he worked part-time for Hartwell Drugs as a clerk and delivery man. Mr. Milner was an active member and former president of the Hart County Democratic Party and a member and participated in the Hart County
Habitat for Humanity.
Mr. Milner was an active member of the Hartwell First Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Methodist Men, helped cook on Wednesday nights and other special events, served on the Usher and Security Teams as well as several other committees. He was also was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his children: Richard Vincent Milner (Renee) of
Brunswick, Ga., Joseph Lee Milner (Elle) of
Melbourne, Fla., Mary Sinclair Parker (Clint) of
Butler, Ga.; five grandchildren: Peyton Blaine Parker (Tyler Hortman), Ander Steven Parker (Hannah Harris), and Cal Parker, Joey Milner (Jordan), Bobbi Kate Milner; four great-grandchildren: Sara Elizabeth Milner, Bennett Milner, Brooks Milner and Britt Milner; three brothers: Richard "Dick" Milner of
Rome, Ga., George Milner (Joy) and Tim Milner (Brenda) both of Hartwell. Mr. Milner is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol Carpenter Milner and a sister, Carolyn Milner Keen.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 28, in the Fellowship Hall at Hartwell First Methodist Church with Dr. Allen Stewart and Rev. Beau Swafford officiating. There will be a reception following the service, where the family will receive friends. A private burial will follow in the Northview Cemetery.
