Johnny Lee Bruce

Johnny Lee Bruce, 84, of Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Hospice of the Upstate in Anderson, S.C.
Born on April 4, 1940 in Blakely, Ga., he was the son of the late Edgar Bruce and Daisy Honea Bruce. Mr. Bruce was a rural mail carrier with the United States Postal Service with 33 years of service. He was also a member of the Mt. Paran Church in Atlanta, where he served as an usher for more than 30 years, and served on several committees.
Johnny proudly served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1959-1962. He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne and a trained medic. He was a member of the VFW Post 109 in Hartwell. Johnny was also an outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. He was a former member of both the Lake Hartwell Bass Club and the Red Man Tournament Trail. He was also a member of the North Georgia Tres Dias for 35 years, and was a former Rector in 2008.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra M. Bruce of Hartwell; his two children: Edwin Bruce of Canton, Ga., and Donna Cloud of Tate, Ga.; grandchildren: Kellie Lewis of Dawsonville, Ga., and Kyle Lewis (Heather) of Flowery Branch, Ga,; great-grandchildren: Adeline and Victoria Lewis; step-children: Suzanne Mize (Russ) of Hartwell and Jamie Holbrook (Amy) of Asheville, N.C.; and step-grandchildren: Chantz Mize and Rachel Mize of Hartwell, and Alexander Holbrook of Asheville. Mr. Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, W.J. Bruce.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, in the Chapel of the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell with the Rev. Carter Tucker officiating.
Graveside services were held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Long Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery in Marble Hill, Ga., with the Rev. Kent Hawkins officiating.
