Cathy A. Boyle (nee Zalar)
Cathy A. Boyle (nee Zalar) passed away July 29, 2021 in her home in Laguna Niguel, CA after a four-year battle with lung cancer. She was the daughter of Hubert Zalar and Bette R. Dempsey (nee Carey). She is survived by her husband, Daniel Boyle, sister, Betsy Lichner (nee Zalar) and her husband, Richard and nieces, Lily Lichner and Ali Lichner and many loving cousins. Cathy was born and raised in Joliet, IL. She attended St. Patrick elementary school, St. Francis Academy high school, Joliet Junior College and received her degree in education from Northern Illinois University. Cathy taught at Laraway 70C School District for two years before moving to southern California where she began a long and very successful career in special education. Cathy continued her education, eventually receiving a life credential from the state of California and becoming a special education administrator. As an administrator, she guided and oversaw special education teachers as well as being involved in choosing curriculum. Cathy was a very colorful member of the family. She corresponded regularly with 12 aunts and uncles and many, many cousins. She was an avid tennis player and loved to read. Cathy was a wonderful daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and lifelong friend to many. She will be missed! Memorial luncheon for Cathy will be October 3, 2021 at Cemenos Restaurant 1630 Essington Rd Joliet, IL 60435. 1:00 pm.
