CHIP - MEMORIES & LOVE
Shirley and I, as well as our daughter, Angelene, send our love and heartfelt prayers to his lovely wife Jan, his daughters, and all of Chips family.
I have known his daughters and siblings, most, since birth. Chip spoke often of them over the years.
I first met Chip during the eighth grade/freshman year of high school, when "Skipper" Frank Rouch, signed us up to be founding members of Sea Explorer Ship 44, BSA, operating out of the VFW, in Joliet, IL.. Skipper must have been pretty desperate because we weren´t really interested but he saw promise in us.
Although Chip and I met and conversed during the Ship´s meetings, etc., we did not really "know" each other until we were on a Winter "campout", in the middle of a freezing blizzard, at a log cabin, named "CAMP CHASE", along the I&M trail and Canal that runs from Channahon to Morris IL.. The cabin was large, with two huge potbelly stoves, one at each end of the cabin. Later, things became extremely rowdy and noisy, as some of the boys, including Chip, were carousing late into the night. I got fed up with the noise...even Skipper could not calm them down. Finally I sought to teach then a lesson and when things finally quieted down, I started walking around banging on a big cooking pan and singing crazy songs so "they" could not sleep. Chip took offense to this and before long Chip and I were in a fight that spread over the entire cabin, knocking over tables, chairs and came close to knocking over a stove...Skipper had enough and took both of us by the collar and threw us out the door with our sleeping bags into the frozen front porch. And he yelled "....and don´t come back in until morning and you can act like SCOUTS...not ruffians!". The two of us, laying out there freezing, began to talk, and found a lasting friendship for over 65 years.
Through the years, with the Vietnam war and all its horrors and tumultuous memories he had to endure...Chip never gave up, on himself or others.
Even with his own frequent visits to VA clinics and hospitals, he would often, on his many trips for the "LIONS", stop along the road at gas stations and "7-11´s" and purchase "Joke Books" and short "funny" story books to take along to his medical appointments...not for himself, but to stop in and visit with those vets who could not go home. He would sit and quietly visit with them and read the jokes and let them know that there was someone...him...who cared. His many years of doing the "hard jobs" of traveling and monitoring the services and monies for the LIONS was his gift to others for over twenty years...always for others...he gave his service.
Chips last few years with Jan was a final gift, for himself and Jan...it brought him love and peace and made his last few years truly "GOLDEN".
Charles R. Farrington (III). Many, many people loved Him and will remember Him with fond memories and love.

With Love,
Walt & Shirley Frick
