Donald Smith Obituary
Age 69, of Braidwood, IL passed away peacefully, Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at his home. Born June 3, 1953 in Joliet, IL to the late Franklin D. and Dorothy Mae (nee Arnold) Smith. He graduated from Reed-Custer High School with the class of 1971. Donnie was a hard worker his entire life. He first worked for Texaco Oil Refinery, then R.R. Donnelly for seventeen years, and most recently enjoyed the life of truck driving. He also formerly worked for Lions Park and the City of Braidwood within the maintenance department. Member of the Braidwood Recreation Club where he enjoyed fishing and driving around. Donnie enjoyed riding his motorcycle, tinkering in the garage, golfing, puzzles, throwing darts, listening to music, playing cards, and most importantly loved spending time with family, friends, and his dog, Benny. Surviving are his wife, Beverly (nee Zapotocky) Smith, whom he lovingly married in 1973 & 1996; three children, Shannon (Joe Keene) Mills of Three Rivers, MI, Jason (Tammi) Smith of Morris, IL, and Frank (Allie) Smith of Cardiff, IL; five grandchildren, Jacinda (Trevor Tanke) Smith, Jenika Smith, Logan Mills, Jayda Mills, and Amelia Smith; four siblings, Dale (Jerri) Smith of Braidwood, Diane (Dave) Hibler of Joliet, Danny Smith of San Antonio, TX and David (Susan) Smith of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, Sharon Zapotocky of Saugerties, NY; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families; and special family friend, Yolanda "Yoli" Odo. Visitation for Donnie will be at the R.W. Patterson Funeral Home & Crematory, Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 4:00 p.m. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the family to be dispersed throughout many local charities would be appreciated.
