Doris Mae Gato, nee Facinelli, age 96, a lifelong resident of Joliet, IL, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2022 at her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on May 28, 1925 in Coal City, IL.
Doris is survived by her loving children, Jerry (Colleen) Gato of Barrington, RI, Judi (Dan) Dillon of Janesville, WI, Bob (Kathy) Gato of Plainfield and Karin (the late Ed) Gora of Joliet, IL; her cherished grandchildren, Derek (Julie) Gato, Gina Gato, Duffy (Fawn) Dillon, Brian (Liz) Dillon, Chris (Kelly) Dillon, Annette (Kevin) McCammon, Stephanie (Ed) Rog and Shelly and Missy Gora and fifteen great-grandchildren; as well as her dear brother, Bill (Bonnie) Facinelli, many nieces and nephews and a lifetime of good friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Gato; her parents, Fredand Minnie Facinelli; her brother, Bob (the late Bev) Facinelli and sister,Norma (the late Bob) Skerjan, and her son-in-law, Ed Gora.
Doris was a lifetime member of St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and was involved in several ministries. She was most proud to have lovingly made over 12,000 baptismal bibs over the more than 60 years, finally retiring from the ministry at the age of 94. She was the founding member of the St. Mary Immaculate School Mother's Club and was very involved in school activities for the nearly twenty years her children attended there. A member of the Council of Catholic Women, Doris was honored to be named the Woman of the Year four times.
Doris was a very talented and enjoyed sewing wedding dresses and painting china. Her gifts to family and friends will be treasured for generations to come.
For those who would like to leave a lasting tribute to Doris' life, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church or Lightways Hospice,250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, IL 60431.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 1, 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM at the Overman-Jones Funeral Home & Cremation Services, corner of Routes 30 & 59, Plainfield. The Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM at St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 S. Route 59, Plainfield. Inurnment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet. Doris made my wedding dress as well as so many others. She then started so many babies off in their baptisms in the Catholic Church with her bibs. Many of us have a table favor or doll with doll clothes that she donated for raffles yearly. Her volunteer work went above & beyond. There was a sisterhood amongst all those women who joined together during the early days of St. Mary's School along with Msgr. Rotondi & Sister Audrey.
May they all hold a high place in Heaven with their maker. Doris will surely be missed by
many whose lives she made an imprint on.....

My deepest and sincere sympathy to the Gato family. Doris was just the sweetest lady and so talented. She made not only my wedding dress and veil, but also the dresses of all my bridesmaids and flower girl. All without a pattern! Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the services, but know she is in my thoughts and prayers. May Doris Rest In Peace..

Doris was such a wonderful lady and i have so many of her crafts that she made and daughter and myself would go to her craft show held at her house and as soon as you would walk in you could smell her famous chocolate chip cookies.
She was a angel here and now a angel in heaven
