Joan Bannon Obituary

Joan M. Bannon
Born: October 23, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois
Died: September 8, 2021 in Plainfield
JOAN M. BANNON
Longtime Joliet resident Joan Marie (Graham) Bannon, age 89 passed away peacefully on September 8, 2021. Heaven gained one of the most wonderful human beings ever. Joan went peacefully, surrounded by her family and was welcomed to Heaven by her Savior, Jesus Christ. She loved God and praised Him joyfully to the end. She was a big advocate for 'family' and adhering to God's ways. She loved others while impacting everyone who knew her with her boundless joy, faithful love and spontaneous humor.
Joan was born October 23, 1931 and was raised in Chicago. She attended Little Flower Grade School and Mercy High School, both in Chicago. Joan also attended Marquette University and the University of Illinois. She married Joseph Braun Bannon on May 24, 1952, whom she met at the U of I and they had seven children.
Joan was preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Braun Bannon, former owner of Labo Florist in Joliet, in December of 2015. Joan was also preceded in death by her son John, grandson Christopher and her wonderful brother Donald Graham.
Joan is survived by her loving children, James (Toni), Mary Anne Komar, Joseph (Karen), Martha Bachtler (John), Robert (Char) and Thomas (Debbie). She is also survived by her grandchildren Jeremy (Kelly Covarrubias ) Komar, Jeffrey (Michelle) Komar, Kristin Bannon, Maria ( Mike ) Mogavero, Nicole (Erik) Hoops, Mike Bannon, Thomas Bachtler, David (Jessica)Bachtler, Julie (Cooper) Napoli, Ben Bachtler, John (Mairi) Bannon, Patrick (Breanne) Bannon, Matthew Bannon, Stephanie ( Jeff ) Matesi, Kylie (Kevin) Filotto and Rylan Bannon. Also survived by great grandchildren, Jakob and Elijah Komar, Lena and Finn Komar, Camden and Liam Walker, Nora and Clara Bannon, April and Regan Hooper, Cassie and Jake Covarrubias, and Iona Bannon.
Joan was very active in the Mothers Club at St. Patrick's Grade School and Joliet Catholic High School both in Joliet. She was also very active with the Pro-Life Ministry at St. Patrick's Church in Joliet.
Joan enjoyed the holidays and wrapping presents. She had decorations for every holiday and season. She got the biggest kick out of wrapping presents with awesome wrapping paper and the coolest ribbons and bows. She loved the grandkids and watching them opening presents. Marshall Fields was like family to her.
Joan loved nature and the peace it brought in spite of the never-ending stream of children. She loved her father's lake house on Lake Catherine in the Chain of Lakes and she loved her and Joe's retreat at Lake Wildwood in Varna, Illinois. She still loved her animals in her back yard until she could no longer stay in her home.
Her cooking was phenomenal. Joe was the recipient of gourmet dinners his whole life with Joan.
Labo Florist was her joy ! She loved the window decorating and the gift shows. She loved seeing what were the latest offerings for each year and what might be good at the store and at home. She loved her art and decorating and kept this quiet but was always meticulous about it. Her sister-in-law, Pat (Coyle) Graham was a beloved best friend, with whom she shared everything.
A wake will be held at Carlson Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home on Monday September 13th from 4 pm to 7 pm and a mass will held Tuesday September 14th at 10:00 am at St. Patrick's Church at 710 W. Marion St., Joliet. Interment Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Joliet.
