Mary M. Darin
Age 106 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Lightways Hospice Home.
Born August 22, 1919, in Joliet, Mary was a daughter of John and Katherine (née Jaska) Malesich.
She was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic Grade School and Joliet Township High School.
On, November 24, 1946, she married Anthony L. Darin, and they raised four children in Joliet.
During World War II she worked at the American Can Company.
She was a longtime member of the St. Joseph Women's auxiliary, Joliet Rivals Club and St. Ambrose Church (St. Carlo Acutis Parish).
She was an excellent seamstress, loved to bowl, play euchre, work on jigsaw puzzles and bargain shop at Kmart.
She volunteered many hours with her husband, Anthony, at the Shepherd's Table in the former St. Mary's Carmelite Church, feeding the poor.
Mary loved her family and enjoyed when they gathered for holidays and birthday celebrations. She always found joy and happiness in life and will be truly missed.
Survivors include her loving children, Douglas (Mary) Darin, Colleen (Robert) Krol and Michelle Petric; grandchildren, Joseph (Patsy) Darin, Kristin Darin, Darin Krol, Adam (fiancé Leah Diaz) Krol, Jason (Amanda) Petric, Amy (Alan) Vertin, Kathleen (Chad) Shipley and Kyle Petric; nine great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony L. Darin (2006); daughter, Kathleen Darin; grandson, Stephen Krol; parents, John and Katherine Malesich; sister, Helen (Jack) Darin; and brothers, John (Sid) Malesich and Joseph Malesich.
A memorial visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at Blackburn Giegerich Sonntag Funeral Home – 1500 Black Road, Joliet, then processing to St. Carlo Acutis Parish (St. Ambrose Church) 1705 Burry Circle Drive Crest Hill, for a Mass of Christian Burial, Rev. Anthony Nyamai officiating., Joliet, IL 60431. Mary will be laid to rest beside her husband in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery, following the mass.
