Mary Ann McFarland Hayes, 90 passed away on October 17, 2022 surrounded by her loving children. Born in Braidwood, IL November 14, 1931 to Hardin and Cornelia McFarland; she was the ninth and youngest child of their union.
Between 1967 and 1988, Mary Ann and her husband Wiley R. Hayes Sr. owned and operated Hayes Groceries & Meat, as well as, Hayes BBQ House in Lockport, Illinois. She also worked for the State of Illinois Police until her retirement in 2005. Known as an avid baker, she often took orders from the community for her various sweet treats. She was a talented pianist who enjoyed playing for both Shiloh M.B. Church and Mt. Ebal M.B. Church during her lifetime.
Mary Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Hardin and Cornelia McFarland; three brothers and five sisters, John, Pierson, Hardin, Cornelia, Georgia, Theresa, Martha, Coren and one son, Weston Alan Hayes.
She is survived by her husband, Wiley R. Hayes Sr. of Fairhope, AL; her eldest daughter and caregiver, Shirley Stevens (Vincent) of Crest Hill, IL, daughter, Gloria Sellers (Willie) of Joliet, IL; son, Wiley R. Hayes Jr. (Venita) of Hopkinsville, KY, daughter, Connie Fitch (Andre) of Joliet, IL; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Hayes (Weston) of Joliet, IL: 14 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one special nephew, Jesse "Butch" Williams of Joliet, IL and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins sister-in-law and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2022 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home and Saturday, October 29, 2022 from 9:00-10:00 AM at Mt. Ebal M.B. Church, 221 Cameron Ave., Lockport, IL. Service at 10:00 AM, Pastor Cornell Ervins, officiating. Interment following at Mt. Vernon Memorial Estates, Lemont, IL.

To the Hayes/Stevens/Sellers families. I'm sorry I did not know of your mother's passing. I would have reached out before now. She live a great life to 90 and that's more than the biblical three score and ten . She by reason of strength lived past four score. I pray that the Lord comfort you all in the difficult days ahead.

My fondest memory growing up in the Fairmont community and attending Shiloh M.B. church with Sister MaryAnn Hayes, was singing in the Children´s choir and the Inspirational choir in which Sister MaryAnn Hayes was the church´s pianist. It was under her teaching that I began my love for singing and directing the choir as well as my walk with God! I say Rest well to a great mentor in the music ministry.
