Merritt E. "Uddy" Cagwin
A lifelong resident of Homer Township passed away peacefully at home on March 29, 2021.
Merritt is survived by his loving family. Three children, Don Cagwin, Bonnie (Robert) Ford, and Connie (Richard) Smyder. Grandchildren Cindy (Kerry) Cagwin-Johnston, Jeff Cagwin, Amanda Cagwin, Deanna (Robert) Hargraves, Curry (Gigi) Ford. Eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several loving nieces and nephews. Merritt is preceded in death by his wife Marie, daughter-in-law Kathleen Cagwin, and parents Merritt and Hattie Cagwin.
Merritt was the proud owner and operator of Cagwin Truck Lines. He was also one of the founding fathers and twice President of the Midwest Truckers Association. Merritt was also an active leader of the Legislative Committee for the Association.
In retirement, Merritt became an active member of Will County Threshermen's Association. He and Marie, AKA Uddy and Chub, loved attending shows and parading their tractors. Uddy developed a collection of over 50 tractors and steam engines.
