Michael Horn Obituary

Michael John Horn
Born: July 2, 1955
Died: August 22, 2023
It is with heavy hearts we share that, after a long battle with Valley Fever, Michael John Horn (68), entered eternal life on August 22, 2023 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He was born July 2, 1955 to Curtis J. Horn and Ada Jeane (Thomas) Horn in Joliet, Illinois. On May 18, 1974 he married Tyna Melissa Francis. They had two children, Melissa Jo Vincent of Richmond, MN, and Tyna Jo (Terry) Meemken of Avon, MN. Together they owned and operated Alliance Welding & Fabricating and American Steel & Construction in Joliet. Michael also worked as an ironworker for many years and a welding instructor in his spare time. After retiring from Ironworkers Local #1, he moved to his home on the mountain in New River, AZ to pursue his passion of riding his Harleys year-round. Due to health reasons, Michael moved to Victoria, TX to keep living in the heat that he loved but to also be near some of his family who took great care of him. Michael was strong willed and stubborn, as well as generous, hardworking, and brave. He had enormous faith in God, his family and country. Michael was certainly clever and full of knowledge gained through his many life experiences. He was a handyman who could fix or build anything and he loved passing on his knowledge with an artistic flare and, if need be, a steel toe boot in the ass. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Judith Horn and nephew Curtis Robert Horn. He is survived by his children, grandchildren: Jonathan, Emma & Max Vincent, and siblings: Curtis (Carole) Horn Jr. of Shorewood, Illinois, Thomas (Geri Shoop) Horn of Joliet, IL, Nora (Glenn) McCarthy of Victoria, TX, Joan Horn of Joliet, IL, Daniel (Karen) Horn of Orland Park, IL, and Raymond (Exie) Horn of Blairsville, GA and many beloved nieces and nephew. A Mass of Christian burial will be held in Michael's honor November 18, 2023 at 11:30am at Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, IL. A Celebration of Life and lunch will immediately follow at American Legion Post 1080 on Ingalls Ave. in Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael can be made to Cure Duchenne online at www.CureDuchenne.org or to Mayo Clinic online at www.mayoclinic.org/development or mailed to Department of Development, Mayo Clinic, 200 First St. SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
