Michael Joseph "Mike" Oberts, age 55, passed away on Friday, October 17, 2025.Born on August 25, 1970, Mike was the beloved son of William J. and Mary T. (née Kennedy) Oberts.
Mike grew up in Joliet and was a proud graduate of St. Raymond School and Joliet Catholic High School. He continued his education at Northern Illinois University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Marketing. He went on to enjoy a successful career as a financial planner.
Mike was a proud member of The Rivals Club and had a true passion for life. He was an avid sports fan who never missed cheering on his favorite teams, and he loved being outdoors, especially when he was fishing. Music was also a special part of his life-he appreciated all genres and enjoyed attending live concerts whenever he could. What Mike cherished most, however, was spending time with the people he loved. He will always be remembered for his fun-loving spirit, his loyalty to his friends, and the deep love he had for his family-especially his daughter.
Mike is survived by his loving parents, William and Mary Oberts; his cherished daughter, Madeline "Maddie" Murphy; his brother, Mark (Erica) Oberts; and his treasured niece and nephews: Matthew, Olivia, and Owen. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends who will miss him greatly.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held with a visitation to be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Tezak Funeral Home, 1211 Plainfield Road, Joliet, IL.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. at Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Avenue, Joliet, IL. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded.
