Paul R. Stempien

Paul Roman Stempien, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 3, 2025, at the age of 80. Born the oldest of 7 children on December 10, 1944, Paul's life was a testament to the values of hard work, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Paul is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Stempien, with whom he shared a life full of joy and companionship. His legacy continues through his daughter, Lindsey (Derek) Hunsinger, and his ten grandchildren, who will remember him for his quiet wisdom and wit. He is also survived by his siblings, Jack (Roseann) Stempien, Marianne (Brian) Nelson, Jane Sleyko, and Rosie (Bruce) Petkus. Paul was predeceased by his daughter Jennifer Hart, his parents Pauline and Stanley, and his siblings Cathy and Caroline Stempien, as well as his brother-in-law Robert Sleyko.
One of the defining qualities of his life was his unwavering work ethic. Always present-he often credited it to his time serving in the United States Army in Vietnam. He spoke of those years with respect. He carried that sense of duty throughout his life.
After being honorably discharged from the service, professionally Paul was known for his dedication to his work, valuing both a dollar and the importance of education. Paul's educational journey culminated in a bachelor's degree from Lewis University, a milestone representative of his lifelong commitment to learning.
Paul's interests were as diverse as they were profound. He had a keen eye for collectible memorabilia, often recounting the stories behind each piece with enthusiasm and detail. Photography was another of Paul's hobbies. Capturing moments in time captivated him, becoming the background for his stories shared.
A life filled with a million memories with family and friends. As we bid farewell to Paul Roman Stempien, we celebrate a life well lived.
Funeral services for Paul will be held at Farkas Funeral Home, 3201 W. Jefferson St. Joliet, IL 60431 on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of services. Per Paul's wishes, cremation will follow after services. Inurnment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at a later date.
