Phyllis Sikora Obituary

Phyllis S. Sikora, 91, of Bloomington, formerly of Joliet, died at 7:10pm, Wednesday, November 5, 2008 at Martin Health Center, Bloomington.

Her funeral will be 11:00am Saturday, November 8, 2008 at Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal with Rev. Monsignor Eric Powell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Normal. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00pm Friday, November 7, 2008 at Carmody-Flynn Williamsburg Funeral Home, Bloomington where the rosary will be recited at 3:30pm and for one half hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epiphany Catholic Church Building Fund, 1000 E. College Ave., Normal, IL 61761.

Phyllis was born June 24, 1917 in Joliet, the daughter of Stanley and Aniela Storcz Smigielski. She married Richard T. Sikora June 25, 1950 in Joliet. He survives.

She is also survived by two daughters, Christine (Richard) Ito of Seattle, WA, Cathleen (Edward) Winkofsky of Dayton, OH; one son, Dr. Richard L. (Cathy) Sikora of Normal; 12 grandchildren, Greg, Jeff, Chris, Ann, Mary, Nathan and J.P. Sikora, David and Cathleen Ito, Ed (Holly) Winkofsky, Eric and Evan Winkofsky; two sisters, Irene Krupinski and Clara Liker, both of Joliet.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Phyllis worked at the ammunition plant in Joliet during WWII and retired from Western Electric in 1982 after 33 years. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church, Normal. Phyllis enjoyed traveling, crochet, playing cards and was a member of a Polka Dance Group.

Sorry about your loss. A lot of people will miss Phyllis. We miised her and Rich when they moved. We have a lot of memories of her being our neighbor.

My sincere condolences. I will never forget your mother Phyllis baking brownies and teaching us how to play canasta at the kitchen table. She always had a smile on her face when I stopped in to meet Rich for our walk to St. Bede's every morning.
