Richard Johnson Obituary

Age 78, passed away Sunday November 2, 2008, with his family by his side. Born December 9, 1929, in Bloomington, IL. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Returning to Bloomington, he worked at Steak 'N Shake until moving to Joliet, IL where upon he worked for Stateville Correctional Facility as a bakery chef. In 1967 he began a career with E.J. & E. Railroad (The J) as a carman until retiring after 25 years in 1992. He also volunteered as an election Judge.

Preceded in death by parents, Charles and Elizabeth (Stevens) Johnson; two brothers, Edward and Charles Johnson; two sons, Michael in infancy and Ronald Johnson; a daughter, Cynthia Johnson.

Survived by three sons, Richard (Cynthia) Johnson of Franklin, WI, Donald (Becky) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV and Victor Johnson of Joliet; a daughter, Judith (William) Koerner of Shorewood; two grandsons; ten granddaughters; a great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

Funeral from the Blackburn-Giegerich-Sonntag Funeral Home, Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. to St. Mary Nativity Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Interment Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation Wednesday 5-8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

A special thank you to the staff at the Joliet Oncology Hematology Association, Provena Villa Franciscan Nursing Home, 7th floor, 3rd and 4th floor ICU at Provena St. Joseph Medical Center.
