Age 93 of Joliet, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Ascension Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet
Born September 8, 1930 in Joliet to her immigrant parents, Andrew, Sr. and Rose (Bozic) Hrvatin. Rose Mary was raised and educated in Joliet and attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Providence High School with the class of 1948. Following graduation, Rose Mary went on to work for Sears Roebuck Department Store and stayed dedicated to the company for 43 years until retirement. In 1956 Rose Mary married Mr. Robert Rogel and together they made a home and a lifetime of memories together.
Rose Mary was a devout Catholic and lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet. She was deeply proud of her Slovenian heritage and was a longtime member of the Slovenian Union of America Branch #20, as well as a lifetime member of KSKJ Lodge #29. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She was also a skilled seamstress and made a lot of her own clothing. Rose Mary also looked forward to her annual ski trips with Robert to Aspen, Colorado. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Rose Mary is survived by her husband of 67 years: Robert Rogel; brother: Arthur (Nikki) Hrvatin, Sr.; sister: Eileen (the late Walter) Plese; sister-in-law: Kathy Wheeler (Don Gudac), and brothers-in-law: Dennis (Shirley) Rogel and John (the late Camille) Vallrugo. She was a beloved aunt to numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Andrew, Sr. and Rose Hrvatin, and siblings: Andy (Bonnie) Hrvatin, Bertha (Arthur) Nelson and Albert Hrvatin.
Per Rose Mary's wishes, cremation rites have been accorded.
The family will receive relatives and friends for a memorial visitation on Friday, October 13, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 416 N Chicago Street in Joliet, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow visitation and begin at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow Mass and Rose Mary will be laid to rest at St. Joseph Cemetery in Joliet.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made as gifts in Rose Mary's name to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Joliet.
