Stephen R. Lyne
Passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, at Lightways Hospice, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Age 47 years. Stephen is survived by his devoted wife of 14 years Heidi Lyne (nee Speer) and their two beloved sons, Tucker Lyne (12) and Marshall Lyne (7), who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his loving parents Robert and Julie Lyne, his siblings Paul Lyne, Jennifer Young and Lauren Trone. His grandmother Dorthy Lyne. Also surviving are his in-laws Robert and Patricia Speer, his brother-in-law Mitchell (Brooke) Speer and several cherished nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Nello and Julia Isabelli, and James Lyne. Born on September 26, 1977 in Joliet, Stephen was a proud graduate of Joliet Catholic Academy Class of 1996 and later earned his degree from the Joliet Junior College Culinary Arts School in 2000. A gifted chef, Stephen worked as a Chef Manager for several area hospitals and restaurants, but his most treasured role was being at stay at home Dad with his boys. Most recently, he was employed at Underground Pipe and Valve in Shorewood and contributed his talents to Chicago White Sox Charities. Stephen's passions were many. He loved bowling in leagues and with friends, had an unshakable enthusiasm for auto racing-especially the Indianapolis 500-and enjoyed following baseball, football, basketball, and cheering on his sons during their games. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and encouragement to all who knew him. Funeral services for Stephen will be held Saturday, August 30th, at 10:00 A.M. from Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home & Crematory, 2320 Black Rd., proceeding to St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, 15629 Illinois Rt. 59, Plainfield, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 A.M. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials in Stephen's honor may be made to St. Mary Immaculate Church and School and will be deeply appreciated by the family.
