Virginia Marie (Sanaghan) Fleming

Virginia Marie (Sanaghan) Fleming, age 83, passed away on July 30th, 2021, after a long struggle with dementia. Ginny, as she was known to her family and friends, was born in Chicago, IL on December 8th, 1937. She was the third daughter of William and Sarah (McGinn) Sanaghan. After graduating from Loretto Academy High School, she attended St. Joseph School of Nursing, both in Chicago. After obtaining her R.N., she married James D. Fleming of Blue Island, IL at Seven Holy Founders Church in Calumet Park, IL on September 20th, 1958.
Ginny worked as a nurse her entire career. She was most proud of her time at Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet as a nurse anesthetist. After her children were raised, Ginny returned to school and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from the University of St. Francis. A devout Catholic, she was a Third Order Dominican and had a devotion to the Mass and Rosary. She loved a good time, a good laugh, and a good conversation. She also loved to plan trips and travel with her family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 51 years, Jim, as well as her parents, and sisters Eleanore Coffey, and Joanne Clark.
She is survived by her son James (Mary Ellen) Fleming of Minneapolis, MN and their children Denise Fleming of Washington D.C., John (Molly) Fleming of Minneapolis; her daughter Sarabeth (Gary) Maurisak of Des Moines, IA and their children Sarah (Michael) Maiers of Waukee, IA, Jacqueline (Michael) Pederson of Des Moines; her daughter Sister John Mary Fleming O.P. of Nashville, TN; her daughter Kathleen Fleming and her granddaughter Anna Keenan of Platteville, WI.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on September 11, 2021 at 12:00 P.M in St. Jude's Catholic Church preceded by a gathering at the church at 11 A.M. to offer condolences. Following Mass there will be an inurnment at Maplewood Cemetery in New Lenox, Illinois.
