Daryl Smith Obituary
He was born Sept. 19, 1947, in Anderson, to the late Carl and Hazel (Althouse) Smith. On June 26, 1971, he married Marsha K. Fite in Anderson and she survives.
Daryl graduated from Anderson High School in 1965, and Anderson University in 1969, where he received the Candace Stone Award. He received his master's degree from Ball State University.
Daryl was a principal with Twin Lakes School Corporation for 19 years and retired in 2006. He received the Outstanding Young Educator Award while at Twin Lakes and was a participant of Art on the Wabash for 10 years. Daryl enjoyed wood working, writing and had published a book of Poetry.
Surviving along with his wife are his children, Brady R. Smith (Bridgit Bucher), West Lafayette, Valarie L. Smith (Lisa Hayes), Avondale Estate, Ga., and his granddaughter, Cara Xavia Bucher Smith. Also surviving are his siblings, Kevin (Anita) Smith, Anderson, and Sandra (Ben) Althouse, Columbus, Wis.
Daryl was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffrey Smith.
A private service is planned with inurnment at Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown.
Memorial contributions may be made to Food Finders Food Bank or the ALS Association of Indiana in Daryl's memory.

I taught kindergarten while Daryl taught 6th grade at Marie Thurston Elementary in Alexandria. His wife, Marsha, had been in the same homeroom with me when we previously attended Highland High School in Anderson. I had both Brady and Valarie in kindergarten. Daryl was a very kind, caring person and his wife, Marsha, was a sweetheart. Both children were a joy to teach in kindergarten! My condolences and continuing prayers go out to the family. I consider it a privilege for our paths to have crossed briefly. God Bless you and comfort you during the coming days.

Daryl was my teacher and basketball coach at Alexandria Elementary School, 1973/74. Always remember him being such a nice man. I´ve thought of him often over the years. Sincere condolences to his family.

My deepest sympathies to Daryl´s family. I met Daryl soon after his retirement when he thought he´d try painting. He was such a kind and engaging man. A man you remember . I can only imagine the lives he touched through out his career and life.
