Anne Dreyer Obituary
Anne Catherine (Hasson) Dreyer, born September 14, 1927, died peacefully on March 4, 2018.
Anne was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Mary G. (Donegan) Hasson and James Hasson, the third of five children. She is survived by her brother James J. Hasson of Cavendish, Vermont and her six children: Kathleen Van Antwerp (Donald) of Oak Ridge, N.J.; Charles Dreyer Jr. Capt. U.S. Army Ret., (Hilde) of Columbus, N.J.; Mary Curry (Dennis) of Columbia, Md.; Michael Dreyer of Bridgeport, Conn.; Valerie Wyman (John) of Wilton, Conn., and Timothy Dreyer (Laura) of Bedford, N.H. Her family also includes 26 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Stuhler, Jeanne Bollwage and Eileen Bostel.
A 1945 graduate of Battin High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Anne married Charles William Dreyer on November 13, 1948 and remained a loving and devoted spouse for 65 years until his passing in December, 2013. She loved spending time with her husband, at outdoor summer concerts, at Penfield Beach, and volunteering as ushers at the Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University. The two travelled together to the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia – making friends in every place they visited.
Anne read voraciously, and she studied psychology at Fairfield University after her children were grown. She took both disco and square dance lessons and for many years she played recreational league volleyball, went to senior citizens' exercise classes and yoga classes. She and Charlie enjoyed following UConn women's basketball, Notre Dame Football, and the New York Yankees. She also served in the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary.
Anne was a regular communicant at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Fairfield, CT for 40 years, a dedicated prayer group member, sang alto in the choir, volunteered as a Knights of Columbus Columbiette, worked at church variety shows and at various other events as she could.
Calling hours and a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Matthew Church 216 Scribner Ave, Norwalk, CT at 9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. respectively on Friday, March 9th, 2018.
