Emanuel Francis Ondeck Jr.

Emanuel “Manny” Francis Ondeck, Jr., age 79 and a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, entered into eternal rest on February 24 in St. Vincent's Medical Center. He was the beloved husband of Carol J. Listopad Ondeck, son of the late Emanuel Sr. and Eleanor Ondeck, and brother of the late Eleanor Rockwell.

After graduating from Fairfield College Preparatory School, he went on to Fairfield University, where he received his Bachelors of Science degree. After returning from his service in the US Army Radio Signal Corp. in Saran, France, he received his Masters of Arts degree from Fordham University and started his illustrious 43 year teaching career at Fairfield College Preparatory School, teaching ancient Greek, Latin, English and German at different periods over that time. During his time at the “Prep”, he earned his sixth year degree in Education from Fairfield University, was appointed an assistant principal for a period, and was inducted into the Fairfield Prep Hall of Fame. He also headed the Audio Visual Department at the school, as well as, the Library, and the bookstore before his retirement.

In addition to the work at the school, he worked for many years as a radio engineer for the former WNAB in Bridgeport. Among his interests was revisiting Europe with his wife and he was a member of the Classical Association of New England (CANE), a group that promotes the study of Classical Greek and Roman writings and civilizations in high school and college.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Carol J. Listopad Ondeck, a son, Joseph “CJ” Ondeck of Bridgeport, two daughters, Jeanne Ondeck and Marcia Ondeck, both of Hamden, and a granddaughter Marjorie Ondeck of Monroe, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:00am from the Redgate – Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull and at 10:00am in St. Andrew Church, with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call Sunday from 1pm to 7pm in the funeral home.
