Evelyn Balocca Cappiello
Evelyn Balocca Cappiello, 98, widow of John Salvatore Cappiello, passed away October 19, 2025 at Maplewood at Strawberry Hill in Norwalk, CT
Born May 17, 1927 to the late Tercisio and Teresa Balocca, she grew up in the Bronx, New York, attending local schools and graduating from New York University with a B.S. in Business.
She and John met at the university, and married in 1949. In 1953, they settled in Stamford, where they raised their four children. Although her children were always her first priority, Evelyn put her education to work first at Standard Oil then as parish secretary at St. Gabriel's Catholic School in Stamford in the 1960s and finally as a school librarian at Wheaton-Warrenville High School in Illinois during 1970s. She was always active in parent associations at her children's schools.
She moved to Norwalk in 1981 and volunteered for the senior lunch program at St. John's Church of Darien for many years.
Evelyn is survived by her four children: daughters Debra Bennetts and Janice Cappiello, both of Norwalk; sons Mark Cappiello of Westhampton Beach, NY, and John Cappiello of Scarborough, ME; and one granddaughter: Emily Bennetts of Brooklyn, NY. Her only sibling, brother Lino Balocca, predeceased her.
Friends may call on Saturday, October 25, at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. a funeral service will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment with be private.
