Giovanni Girardo Obituary
Mr. Girardo was born in Sambiase, Italy, son of the late Nicola and Maria Cadorna Girardo, He is survived by two children - John Girardo, Jr. of Sacramento, CA and George Nicola Girardo, of Glen St. Mary, FL as well as two grandchildren - Selena and Jackson Girardo of Glen St. Mary, FL. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister: Nick Girardo, of East Norwalk, CT; Pietro Girardo, of Lamezia Terme, Italy, Salvatore Girardo of Melbourne, Australia, and Maria Girardo Ferrara of Lamezia Terme, Italy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews in the U.S., Italy and Australia.
Mr. Girardo was predeceased by a sister—Antonietta Girardo Bonaddio of Melbourne, Australia; a half-sister, Catherine Girardo Perri of Norwalk, CT; five half-brothers: Nicola Girardo of Niagara Falls, NY; Antonio Girardo of Niagara Falls, NY; Felice Girardo and Ferdinante Girardo of Nicastro, Italy.
Mr. Girardo attended schools in Italy and served in the Italian armed forces. He immigrated to the United States in 1961 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1966. He was a retired member of the Connecticut Laborers Union Local 146. He worked for many years with Lametta Brothers Construction Company of Norwalk, Mercedes Construction of Stamford and the Lions Construction of Norwalk during which time he helped construct some of Norwalk and Stamford's prominent buildings and landmarks.
In recent years he lived in Jacksonville, FL where he was a member of the Italian Club of Mandarin, and a parishioner of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church; he was an avid bowler and a member of the Beach Bowling League.
The funeral will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 203 East Ave., Norwalk, CT. Friends and family are all invited to attend the mass. Interment will be in Lamezia Terme, Italy.
