Gregory LaValla Obituary
Longtime Westport Resident
Gregory R. LaValla, 51, a longtime Westport, CT resident passed away on Tuesday September 23, 2014 in Norwalk Hospital.
Greg was born in Stamford, CT on December 27, 1962 and is the son of Ralph and Judith (Schneider) LaValla. Greg played Westport PAL football until he attended Staples where he was a wrestler and graduated in 1980. Greg was a proud volunteer of the Westport PAL and has Coached PAL football for the past 22 years and PAL basketball for the past 5 years. He was on the Board of Directors of PAL Football and was a part of Minuteman Race, the Special Olympics, PAL Fireworks and he worked the PAL booth at the Westport Italian Festival for many years in Westport. Greg also volunteered with the Big Brother program in Bridgeport. Greg loved traveling, going to the beach and spending time with family and friends.
In addition to his parents Greg is survived by three brothers; Mario LaValla of Bridgeport, CT, George LaValla of Winsted CT and Richard Lavalla and his wife Jodi of Greenville, SC, seven nieces and nephews, one grand niece and two grand nephews and the love of his life Joannie Fuss Pica of Wilton.
A memorial service in honor of Greg will be held on Saturday September 27th at 3:00PM at Compo Beach in Westport, CT. Please bring chairs. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Greg may be made to Westport PAL 50 Jesup Rd. Westport, CT 06880 or online at www.westportpal.org. Greg was a very special person an amazing coach, mentor and funny, funny, funny. He always had words of encouragement for our son Joshua Garner both off and on the Football field. John and Greg were great friends instantly on and off the field. I can't imagine a Football season without hearing his voice on the wind. Greg had coached all three of my sons through their PAL football years everytime we saw him on or off the field he was always smiling & that laugh I still can hear it now. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. The town of Westport & PAL football lost a wonderful person. My deepest condolences to his family & loved ones.

LaValla Family, My sincere condolences on the passing of Greg. I lived across the street from you on Ursula Place and remember fondly "all the boys".. especially playing the drums in the garage of the white house... Peace be with you all and may Greg RIP.

Greg and I were on the wrestling team together at Long Lots and Staples, and I was shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. My deep condolences to Greg's family and friends. 51 is too young.

We had the pleasure of meeting Greg at our son-in-laws 50th last year and he was such in in spiration in what he contributed to PAL of Westport and a dear friend to Carmen. He will be dearling missed by many friends.
