Harriet H. Malbin, 93, of Norwalk, died peacefully on Wednesday, September 10th at Danbury Hospital. She was the widow of her beloved husband Malcolm K. Malbin, and was also predeceased by their son, David Malbin. Harriet is survived by her son, Gary Malbin and his wife Donna, grandchildren Michael Malbin, Alex Malbin and his partner Eric, George Malbin, Melody Mallozzi and her husband Kevin, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom she absolutely loved and adored.
Born in Bronx, NY to the late Alex and Ruth Jacobson, Harriet lived in Norwalk her whole life and retired from Caldor's corporate headquarters as an administrative department head.
Harriet found joy in reading, spending time at the beach, and meeting all kinds of people. She especially liked playing bridge and mahjong.
First as a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher, volunteering soon became Harriet's life-long passion. As a member of Hadassah and Beth Israel Sisterhood, she often took on leadership roles with events and served on their Boards.
For many years she and Mal loved to go square dancing, and another favorite activity they shared was ushering at all the local community theaters.
In recent years Harriet volunteered at the Norwalk and Westport Senior Centers, but the Lifetime Learners Institute at Norwalk Community College held a special place in her heart. She served on LLI's board, their curriculum and special events committees, Lunch & Learn, and ran the "I Love To Read" course.
The friends Harriet made through all her activities and volunteering held a very special place in her heart, and she often said how much she cherished them.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 14th at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk followed by burial at the Beth Israel cemetery on Richards Avenue, Norwalk. There are no additional calling hours.
