Marcel Fontaine Obituary

Marcel E. Fontaine
Marcel Edward Fontaine, 29, of Norwalk, CT, passed away unexpectedly early Saturday morning, on May 14, 2022, when his apartment building in Worcester, Massachusetts, caught fire and sadly ended his life. Marcel was born and raised in Norwalk, CT, and was the beloved son to Edward and Mary Ellen Fontaine. Marcel was an active member in the community. He was a member of the JROTC program at Brien McMahon High School and grew up attending Saint Matthew's church, where he was an altar boy.
Marcel was a man of many talents and dedicated his life to helping others. He was diagnosed in his early years with Autism, which led him to his first mission at Crotched Mountain rehabilitation center in New Hampshire, where he utilized his personal skill set to help children with autism and special needs. His love of music, specifically heavy metal, then led him to move to Worcester, MA where he worked at the Palladium and became involved with the local music scene. In addition, he also worked as an activity coordinator at Bear Mountain Skilled Nursing Facility. Marcel loved horror movies and his favorite holiday was Halloween, so he took on various roles as an actor at the Factory of Terror in Fall River, MA. In addition, he actively participated in civil rights protests since 2011 to show support and solidarity for his beliefs and for those without a voice.
Although Marcel was of tall stature and had a long beard, contrary to his appearance, he was the most kind-hearted and gentle person. His listening ear was always available for someone in need of a friend. He was a beacon of light, a source of truth, and an activist for justice. He was a part of the LGBTQ community and considered himself a Norse Pagan. He made it his mission to be "unapologetically himself." If you were fortunate enough to have known Marcel, you knew you had a friend for life, which is evident by his following of over 10k people on his Tik-Tok account. You can still view his videos @marcelfontaine on Tik-Tok.
He is survived by his mother Mary Ellen (Porter) Fontaine, father Edward Fontaine, sister Renee Fontaine and dog Millie. In addition to his immediate family members, he is survived by his loving aunts Sandy Hyde, Jill Sproch, Michele Rerick and Coreen Burns and loving uncles John Koenig, Michael Porter, Albert Porter III, William Porter, and Daniel Porter, along with many loving cousins. He is also remembered by his friends in Worcester, MA who became his family away from home. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Caroline and Gilles Fontaine & Albert Jr. and Mary Porter.
His family will receive friends on Saturday, May 28, 2022 from 10:00am-1:00pm, at the Raymond Funeral Home at 5 East Wall Street in historic Norwalk, with a service to follow.

Oh Marcel so sad, worked with you at the mountain and remembered encouraging you to be house lead and to work with a very difficult student from Virginia. You were great. You also helped me work with some other kids. He was most definitely kind hearted and helpful. Peace for your family so young so sad so sorry.

I can´t begin to express the heartbreak I feel right now for all of you. Marcel and I became connected when he worked with my son at Crotched Mountain. My heart is truly broken for the loss of a great man and an even greater friend.

We worked in activities, some times ate together and remember when he got a place to live. Marcel always did a great job and followed through. When I retired I ran into him on Shrewbery st. with a big smile and hug he was there and like no time had passed!
