Marjorie Kleinknecht Obituary

Marjorie (Buttery) Kleinknecht of Norwalk died on Saturday, January 22, 2011 in Stamford at the age of 91.

Born in Norwalk on July 9, 1919, Marge was the daughter of Ray and Ruth (Johnson) Buttery. A lifelong Norwalk resident, she was an avid reader and a devoted mother and grandmother. After retiring as the bookkeeper at Slickbar, Inc. in Saugatuck in the mid 1980s, she began another career as a librarian at the East Norwalk Library, which lasted until 2009.

She married Richard Kleinknecht, her high school sweetheart, in 1943 in the midst of World War II. After the war they raised two daughters in East Norwalk. Dick passed away in 1970.

She is survived by her daughters Lynn Carlson and Wendy Baker, their husbands, and by her grandchildren, Betsy Carlson Jaeger and Jeffrey Carlson.

Marge's family will receive friends on Thursday, January 27, 2011 in Norwalk's Hoyt-Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 5 East Wall Street from 3:00PM – 5:00PM. All other services will be private.

Dear Lynn and Wendy my first girlfriends and baby-sitters. I found your mom's obituary online today as I looked to see if my dad's was printed yet. George Sternad died at sunrise Monday morning at 85. How he must have laughed to see his old neighbor when he got to heaven.. neighbors again. Even 45 years after leaving Ludlow Manor I can still see our back yards and our moms and dads as young parents. We will miss your calling hours due to our own but are all with you in spirit.. our family of 20 will be here for a memorial service on March 12th in Wilton.. Blessing to you all.

Dear Lynn and Family
I remember your Mother from when we were in Grade School together. She was a wonderful person. I know she will be missed by all of you. My Mom and your Mom went to school together.

Marge was a lovely woman and a wonderful librarian. I always admired her. She maintained an interest in the world around her and stayed active and vital as she got older. An inspiration. As a librarian, she identified books that would be of interest to the patrons of the library because she knew their taste. We miss her at the library.
