Salvador Clancy Obituary

Salvador A. Clancy
Norwalk Resident
Salvador A. Clancy of Norwalk, beloved husband of Beverly T. Clancy, died Thursday, September 19, at Norwalk Hospital with his family at his bedside. He was 74 years old.
Born on June 21, 1939, in Limerick City, Ireland, he was one of nine children of the late John J. and Bridget Clancy, and he was educated by the Christian Brothers at St. Munchins School in Ireland before emigrating to the United States when he was 22 years old.
Upon arrival in America, he apprenticed as a plumber with several local companies and worked also at Nash Engineering and Vanderbilt Minerals in Norwalk. Later, he was employed by the Recreation and Parks Department of the City of Norwalk for many years before retiring in 2005.
Devotion to his family, loyalty to his church, pride in his Irish heritage and support of his American community were major guideposts in Mr. Clancy's life and he was dedicated to the service of each.
He was a life member and former president of the John P. O'Donnell Division of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Norwalk and belonged to the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield.
Equally proud of the United States citizenship he acquired shortly after his arrival from Ireland. Mr. Clancy served it well by volunteering in the Salvation Army, the Norwalk Homeless Shelter, the Connecticut Visiting Nurse Association Hospice and the American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery program.
A devout Catholic, he was a former member of the choir at St. Philip's Church in Norwalk and had been a religious education teacher in the CCD program at St. Mary's Church, also in Norwalk.
His leadership qualities were recognized by co-workers who elected him to the executive board of their municipal employees union local, 2405, a position he held for 17 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, John J. Clancy, and his wife, Patti, of Trumbull, and Patrick A. Clancy of Norwalk; a daughter, Colleen Liscio, and her husband, Richard, of Norwalk; four grandchildren, Brianne Clancy, Kayla Clancy, Richard Liscio, Jr., and Owen Liscio; a step-daughter, Jocelyn Spelker, and her husband, Mark, of Madison, N.J.; a step-son, Jeffrey Titus, and his wife, Christine, of Wilton, and four step-grandchildren, Mark Spelker, Jessica Spelker, Evan Titus and Kailey Titus.
Mr. Clancy was predeceased by his first wife. Marie T. Clancy of Norwalk.
Calling hours will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, September 23, at the Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday. September 24, at St. Jerome's Church, 23 Half Mile Road, Norwalk. Interment will follow at St John's Cemetery, Norwalk.
Contributions in his memory may be made to Whittingham Cancer Center, 24 Maple Street, Norwalk, CT 06850.

Many people come into our lives, but very few leave a mark on your soul that will last forever...Sal was a true example of a kind, caring, genuine man, who could light up a room with a funny story - always ensuring a good laugh! He had a gifted way with children and they gravitated to him, so much so that my seven year old said to me today, "Sal was kind of like my Grandpa, right Mom?". We feel honored to have known such an amazing man, who was like family to us. He will truly be missed and will be in our hearts forever!!!!

We are devastated by the unforeseen and abrupt departure of a gentle, caring, sensitive, unpretentious friend and long-time neighbor whose Gaelic humor lit up our lives. We will miss him more than we can say. His unfailing generosity of time and friendship was the brightest light in our neighborhood. There was one person all of us could count on for anything from a warm good morning to volunteered help for whatever property task needed doing. Our hearts go out to Beverly, who has had more to bear than anyone should have to tolerate. You know, Beverly, that you have our affection and support whenever you need it.

May you rest in peace dad, I'm going to miss you dearly, you were not only my dad, but my best friend.
You were a great father, husband and grandfather and most of all you were a great friend to so many people. You touched the lives of so many. You took our friends and treated them as though they were your own.
You were a man of great character, a great personality and the most warm and loving heart. As I said to you, " if I only have half of what type of man you are, I'm going to be ok "
I love you, I'm going to miss you, and you will forever be in my heart.
